I won't sell what I don't understand, so I build to understand. Nights and weekends, by hand and by agent, I build everything from throwaway prototypes to working SaaS products. When we talk shop, you get a straight answer, not a pitch.
The first time I flew a plane I was overwhelmed by all the knobs, gauges, and inputs. Now it's second nature. I've been through a few sales cycles by now too, and I bring the same attention to detail whether I'm at a conference table or in a Cessna.
